Beyond Lower Back Pain

At one point or another we experience some type of lower back discomfort.
What surprises many people is that the discomfort they feel in their lower back may involve more than the muscles directly beneath the painful area.
The lower back works together with the hips, glutes, pelvis, and surrounding muscles to help us move, bend, stand, and stabilize the body. Tight hip flexors, overworked back muscles, restricted hips, or tension through the glutes can all contribute to how the lower back feels and moves.
That’s why during a massage, I don’t focus only on the spot that hurts. I look at the surrounding muscles and how the entire area is functioning. Sometimes addressing tension through the hips, glutes, and muscles surrounding the spine can help the body move more comfortably.
This can be especially important for people who spend long hours sitting, exercise regularly, travel frequently, or simply notice that their back feels increasingly stiff or tired as the day goes on.
If lower-back discomfort is interfering with your workouts, sleep, or everyday movement, it may be worth giving the surrounding muscles some attention rather than continuing to work around it.
A step in the right direction may be booking a massage at A Knead for Wellness with me, Tiffany, LMT.
